Historical & cultural questions for
Armenian Diplomacy
with Africa, West Indies & African Americans
- - 1/ Africa mentionned in Armenian medevial manuscripts (Movses Khorenatsi,
Anania Shiragatsi, etc.) ?
- - 2/ Relations betwen Armenia and Ethiopia in the past since the Middles-Ages
are well known. What about for to-day, in the present time, after the
important political changes which occured lately in both countries?
- - 3/ in the past, were there African students in Armenia ? Are there
to-day?
- - 4/ in the past, what were the African delegations which visited
Armenia? What about to-day?
- - 5/ Pushkin had some Armenian acquaintances (one was an Armenian
doctor when he was exiled in Moldavia). Did these Armenians in their
writings develop thoughts about the African roots of the great Russian
writer?
- - 6/ what did famous Armenians (writers, poets, etc. ex: Mikael Nalbantian,
Stepan Voskan, Dzerents, Daniel Varoujan, etc.) think of transatlantic
slave trade and slavery?
- - 7/ how the American Civil War was reported in the contemporary Armenian

- - 8/ when the Black American opera singer Paul Robson visited the
Soviet Union during the years of 1958-59, did he meet any Armenians?

Americans? Do you think if among these Black people happenned to meet
Armenians, they felt they had something in commun : because of a commun
past of being victims of crimes against humanity not recognized?
- - 11/ Have some actual Black American writers or intellectuals been
in Armenia? (Maia Angelou, etc.) Have any of their works been translated
in Armenian or been studied?

- - 12/ Are there Blacks in the American Embassy of Yerevan or at the
American University of Yerevan ? (when I accompanied a friend to Charles
de Gaulle Airport last year on her way to Armenia, I noticed an Afro-American
going to Armenia) Rev. Jessee Jackson of Chicago, visited Armenia after
the earthquake (Jan-Feb 1989). Here are two questions :
- - 13/ The Armenian persons (translators, journalists, doctors, etc...)
who accompanied Jesse Jackson. What did they notice about Jesse Jackson
and the persons of his organisation who accompanied him?
- - 14/ I have the article on "Hayréniki Tsayn" about this visit. Are
there other articles published in Armenia?
- - 15/ I have heard that there a person in Armenia who has adopted
many children from various origins. She lives in Yerevan and one of
his sons is now a Black young teenager. Is it possible to get in touch
with her?
